All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams has voiced an interest head coach Brian McDermott has revealed.
The Canadian outfit intend to follow up in their initial approach into the global when his Rugby World Cup responsibilities are over and are watching out for signings after their promotion in the Championship.
McDermott says Toronto want to bring into a David Beckham-type player to do to the Wolfpack that Williams fits the bill and what the Manchester United favourite failed LA Galaxy.
Sonny Bill Williams has shown interest in us thats what its at the moment, said McDermott.
Hes currently occupied with all the World Cup so I wouldnt ever dare to indicate he is more than interested in coming however, the response was not just ano after we made contact so thats something we want to follow up
Mining magnate David Argyle has, bankrolled from their formation three decades ago toronto, who do not take any central funding and that he remains committed despite stepping down as chairman to bringing in recruits.
Our club might wish a title that is absolutely international that everyone would recognise and assist the profile of our sport, very much like David Beckham did Major League Soccer, said McDermott.
But hed need to be an excellent player as well, he has to be able to perform the job that I need him to perform. There would be no token player or just a headline-grabbing player.
So, whoever it might be, you move mention that the five highest-profile baseball players – union or league – around the world and wed be interested and our club would find those.
David Argyle will provide each one of these signings.
The Wolfpack spent heavily on recruitment after the appointment of former Leeds boss McDermott 12 months past and director of rugby Brian Noble claims that the plan is to keep.
McDermott claims the club have already identified key goals and will aim to finalise deals ahead of the start of training.
We want at least four gamers – somebody in front, an external back, a rear row and a person around the ruck area – and you will find just four players there that weve recognized, he added.
Weve been around with recruitment all year but the reality is those people we had been talking to werent sure whether we would be in Super League or not so well be having stronger conversations today.
Toronto realised their strategy to achieve Super League with just two decades to spare and McDermott states that the priority in 2020 is going to be to prevent relegation.
The simple truth is we would like to survive , he said. You look at what London Broncos did so year, and that I thought was really good and they gained a load of matches, however the lively was that everybody around them won a lot of games as well so they ultimately ended up becoming relegated.
Thus survival for certain is the reality of what weve got to do but gently look a bit further towards the upper end than the bottom end.
