An ice hockey player has been awarded an odd prize because of his performance – an AK-47 automatic gun.
Izhstal’s head trainer, a team at the next tier of Russian hockey, advised the group was a fitting selection for a team from Izhevsk.
The town is well famous for producing one of the planet’s most recognisable rifles.
“Lads, today we also are introducing a tradition,” head trainer Ramil Saifullin told the group, cocking the gun.
“As we dwell in an arms production town, the town of the Kalashnikov, every match you’ll for yourselves name the best participant, and the preceding [receiver ] can hand it over to him,” he explained inviting the captain to title the first recipient.
“Could we fire it?” Before committing it to the goalkeeper Savely Kononov into applause from team-mates, The captain joked.
“Congratulations on the win, but when we play we will be shot ,” Kononov stated to applause and laughter from players.
“How do we take it away games?” One asked.
“We shall figure it all out. We will carry a wooden version,” the coach responded.
