As a result, Mercedes have suffered three successive defeats for only the second time in the past six seasons.
And with Ferrari now having discovered a breakthrough with their car on tracks which do not demand horsepower – the established power of that the SF90 – Hamilton is expecting a more consistent struggle.
“I’m a realist, therefore I see the situation we are in and they have just come up with some kind of upgrade that is possibly put their auto… perhaps they’ve had a fantastic car all year and it just was not functioning in the ideal window,” explained Hamilton on Sunday night.
“Who knows, because it’s unlikely they have brought a gigantic, massive upgrade that has brought 20-30 points [of downforce] to a thing which performance-wise is likely what you’d expect they’ve accepted here.
“But obviously their car works really well everywhere now so it is definitely going to be quite hard to conquer them, particularly as they are so fast on the straights. We can not compete together on the straights right now.”
Mercedes should’pull up our socks’
Regardless of Ferrari run, Hamilton and Mercedes’ consistent kind prior to the August summer break means they stay firmly on track.
Hamilton actually extended his title lead to 65 points over team-mate Valtteri Bottas, while Ferrari runner, Leclerc, will be 96 points adrift with 156 points to perform over the final six races.
“We’ve won before with not the best auto but it’s really how we deliver over the weekend.
“At the moment they are delivering better from the operations area. Today I did enough in the race to come out and lead but the procedures that are entire did not get the job done as well as it ought to do. So we’ve only got to re-huddle, reunite with them, work and proceed forward”
The world champion added:”Obviously it has got tighter and tighter as the year has gone , we work on this, but in the exact same time we have just got to do a better job.
“We were doing such a excellent job at the beginning of the year plus we’ve got this difference, but the gap can easily go. I’m under no illusions, my difference in the tournament – it is not won.
“We’ve got to pull up our socks. Together we can perform. But we lose and win as a group and all of us don’t feel good at the moment.”
