Catalans Dragons chairman Bernard Guasch lays into Tony Gigot and other players

Catalans Dragons chairman Bernard Guasch has blamed the group’s meltdown on the players and said he had been”influenced” by the mindset of Tony Gigot.
In a meeting with Perpignan newspaper L’Independant, Guasch said the team’s current form, which comprised back-to-back home beats by relegation-threatened duo London Broncos and Hull KR has devastated him.
The Dragons started the season with high hopes of building on their historic 2018 Challenge Cup victory and sat in third place but they’ll end outside the top five after winning only three of their past 11 matches.
Guasch reported the results demonstrated the team’s reliance on Wigan duo Sam Tomkins and Michael McIlorum, who had been suspended from the fall-out in a struggle with Warrington, and accused others of being a disruptive impact.
He also pointed the finger at”six or seven players at the close of the contract” and”seven or six issues with players who do not accept being told that they won’t be with us next year”.
Among the departures that are probable is France that is out-of-contract international Tony Gigot, that rejected the deal after Guasch lost his patience of a fresh deal, which is off the table.
“We gave him all the cards this season. I’m really affected by his mindset,” Guasch said. “Tony Gigot doesn’t listen to the appropriate men and women. Sooner or later, you have to be serious and I’m.”
Guasch voiced his optimism from Steve McNamara, who joined the club on a three-and-a-half-year deal in June 2017.
Asked if the trainer’s position was at risk, Guasch explained:”No. We’ll extend his contract at the coming weeks of a couple of decades longer.
“I can’t overstate what Steve McNamara brought to the club, rescue us (from relegation) in the Million Pound Game at 2017, winning the Cup in 2018 and also this year we were next in June.
“I am not one of those people who say,’If we play with a great match, the players are very good and once we lose and we are bad, the trainer is awful’.
“We’ll learn from the good lessons to create 2020 a significant year.”
