Batsman Joe Denly states England are a”better team” together with Jason Roy inside their aspect after he confirmed he’ll swap places with all the opener to the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Roy has struggled in the show up to now, scoring 57 runs in six innings.
With Denly taking his position near the top of the order, he will fall to the Old Trafford Test, which starts on Wednesday.
Denly said it’s”good for England cricket” that Roy will continue to keep his place.
“I’ve got a call from Joe Root following a little time and he stated he would like for me to really proceed at the peak of the purchase and try and get us off to a fantastic start,” Denly told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Obviously Jason’s likely to bat at four.”
Kent batsman Denly opened the batting in his England debut against West Indies this season but scored 17 and only six before moving to number three and later number four.
He averages 24.33 from his six Tests but made a significant half-century at England’s second innings of the third Test at Headingley, which the hosts won to measure the series at 1-1 with two matches to play.
After starring the 50-over World Cup-winning group of England as an opening batsman roy was introduced, however, his score at the Ashes series is simply 28.
England have opted to transfer him down the batting order to confront an older ball, As opposed to drop the Surrey batsman after four Tests.
“With Jason Roy from the group, I think we’re a better team for sure,” Denly explained.
“With him coming in at four with hopefully the ball worn , and hopefully myself and Rory [England opener Rory Burns] performing our jobs on top, it enables him to come in and play his way.
“He’s a dangerous player so he’s great to have there.”
Was Ben Stokes’ Test at Headingley the very exciting England win of all time?
